1964. Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964.
History of volleyball. The game of volleyball goes back as far as 1895, when it was invented in America as a hybrid of tennis and basketball. It spread to Europe and around the world during World War I, and became an officially recognised sport after World War II, when the International Federation was founded.
