Our club consists of 20-22 members. We compete against teams from North and South Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia. Our season lasts the entire school year. We usually compete in three to four tournaments each semester, along with a few national ranking tournaments.
If a team is 5-0 but coming off a shaky win while a 4-1 team has won 4 straight in a dominant fashion they are the better team in my power ranking. JMU ranked 12 th for community engagement among 100 Division I programs subscribing to the Helper-Helper app with top-10 finishes within their sport for cheerleading (1), field hockey (2), track and field and cross country (2), swimming and diving (4), women's soccer (4), men's golf (5), women's golf (8), women's tennis (8) and volleyball (9).
JMU was given a rank of 52 out of the 307 schools in its division in our most recent Best Colleges for Division I Women’s Volleyball report. The JMU women’s volleyball program paid out $959,173 in expenses while making $959,173 in total revenue. So, the program broke even.
JMU has a rich athletic history, and narrowing a list of JMU athletes to 16 names isn’t easy. I’m sure there will be names you feel we missed — that’s part of the fun. We want to hear who you think we should’ve included and why. This ranking isn’t official, and it’s meant to generate discussion.
The surface is the Olympic standard for volleyball competition, with JMU ranking among only a handful of elite programs nationwide to feature the playing floor. Permanent air conditioning was installed for the first time in the venue in 2013 with new LED lighting added the following summer in 2014.
